Clubnight: Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf

Wed 22nd Oct 2025, 8:00pm

A rehearsed ‘script in hand’ performance of Edward Albee’s ‘Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?’, a black comedy that was first performed in 1962 and made into a film in 1966 starring Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton.

The play depicts the complexities of the 20-year marriage of middle-aged George, a history professor, and his wife Martha. Late one evening, after returning home from a university faculty party, they receive unwitting younger couple Nick, the new maths professor, and his wife Honey as guests. They are immediately drawn into Martha and George’s dysfunctional and self-destructive relationship.

A long night of bizarre emotional and psychological games, insults, humiliations, betrayals, painful confrontations, and savage witticisms ensues. Secrets are laid bare, and illusions are viciously exposed, leading to a shocking revelation at the end!

Tonight’s performance is a shortened version of the play and will last approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes. The cast is Martha (Nuala Lomax), George (Trystan Davies), Nick (Daniel De Gruchy), Honey (Amanda Larsson). Directed by Richard Jones.
