Female Parts

Two monologues written by Franca Rame in collaboration with Dario Fo in the mid-1970s.

Selected from a series of collections, the first is Waking up, very much in the commedia del Arte style. This monologue explores the role of the working mother,  who has everything in the bosom of the family except the most important thing; the right to be treated by the men of the house as an individual and respected as such not used only as a sexual object and an unsalaried servant. This piece comes from the collection “All Home, Bed and Church”

The second come from “More Stories”, called The Rape; pretty self-explanatory.
Both very different in tone and expression, with incredibly strong political and societal messages, which haven’t really changed in 50 years
Presented by Ella Parry and Kate Jones-Davies
