Clubnight: Shake-It-Up

“To be or not to be…”

What if this iconic line was uttered not by Shakespeare’s Hamlet but by Juliet; or Calaban; or Bottom from A Midsummer Night’s Dream. How would the equally iconic speech that follows it sound when delivered by a different character; with a different set of emotions; from a different play?

Inspired by a recent audition experiment, Shake-it-up aims to demonstrate the flexibility of Shakespeare’s language by allowing performers to explore some of the author’s most revered speeches (OK, they’re all pretty much revered) from an alternative starting point.

Feel free to bring along your own Shakespeare speech, though please try to ensure that your piece does not exceed 5 minutes. A selection of printed examples will also be available to work with on the night.
