From the director:
Rent has become a cultural phenomenon. It means so much to so many people; I am thrilled to have the opportunity to bring it to the stage in Cardiff. Based loosely on Puccini’s La Boheme, Jonathan Larson’s Rent follows a year in the life of a group of impoverished young artists and musicians struggling to survive and create in New York’s Lower East Side, under the shadow of HIV/AIDS against a back drop of social disadvantage, homelessness and drug misuse.
With themes that are still relevant today and an opportunity to perform the adult version of this ground breaking musical with Everyman Theatre, you are welcome to attend the director’s pitch at 8pm on Wednesday 17 May in the Everyman Clubroom at Chapter Arts Centre. There will be a chance to hear extracts from the show, find out more about the characters and discuss my thoughts for bringing this production to the stage in November 2023.
We are aware that Beyonce is performing at the Principality Stadium on Wednesday 17 May; please plan ahead regarding traffic and parking if you are joining us at the director’s pitch night.
Performance dates are Tuesday 28 November to Saturday 2 December (with two performances on the Saturday).
Auditions and rehearsals will start in August – book your audition now!
