Festival 2020: What’s On

Blackadder Goes Forth
From the BBC TV series by Richard Curtis and Ben Elton
Directed by Simon H West
18th – 27th June (not 21st)
It’s 1917 and Edmund Blackadder is now a captain in the British Army at the Western Front, commanding gallant-but-dumb Lieutenant George St. Barleigh and the even dumber Private S. Baldrick.

Waiting in fear of the dreaded order to go ‘over the top’ from the patently insane General Melchett and his twitchy staff officer, Captain Darling, Blackadder devises serial attempts to escape the trenches always with the offer of one of Baldrick’s cunning plans.

First broadcast on the BBC in 1989, Blackadder Goes Forth is one of the most intelligent as well as among the funniest of British sitcoms.

BSL performance on 20th June at 3pm

Twelfth Night

Viola, the first twin, falls in love with Duke Orsino, who is in love with Olivia, who falls in love with Viola and is secretly adored by Malvolio. Meanwhile enter Sebastian, the second twin, identical to his sister. Chaos ensues…

Music by Richard Rogers, book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II

From the magical evocation of the carousel in the overture to the majestic and moving strains of the immortal YOU’LL NEVER WALK ALONE, this giant of the musical stage remains timeless and powerful. The poignant story of the faithful Julie and her brutish husband Billy is one of the most powerful books of the musical theatre and perfectly matches its extraordinary score.
