Melting Pot: Production Management with Ian Buchanan

Ian has worked extensively in theatre production and design since graduating from the RWCMD in 1988.
During the 90’s he toured extensively with companies such as Hijinx, Theatr Iolo, Volcano, Earthfall Dance, Made in Wales and the Sherman Theatre.
Since 2004, Ian has been Production Manager for Music Theatre Wales and has also worked with the National Dance Company of Wales and National Theatre Wales.
In 2000, Ian returned to RWCMD, lecturing in the Design Dept. He was one of the founder members of Theatre Pena in 2009.
Some Everyman members may recognise Ian as he was Production Manager for Everyman’s Summer Festival when it was in St Fagans.
In his session Ian will discuss aspects of Production Management and the challenges found in different genres plus a few practical exercises for participants to solve.
1-Introduction about my background and how that affects the way I work.
2-Introduction about my experience with the different genres Theatre, Opera, dance and outdoor events and/site specific
3- Working abroad and with international companies
4-Scheduling and the different requirements to consider.
5-budgets and how to approach them
6-Risk assessments and how to approach them and why they are needed. Practical approach looking at the usual suspects of fire onstage, guns and gunshots and blades.
The workshop will be on Zoom as usual and the entry code is the same as in previous clubnights. Simon Futty will be the host and a reminder of the entry code will be given next week.
