Angels in America – scenes from a modern classic
Richard Thomas directs a script in hand performance of key scenes from the contemporary classic play ‘Angels in America’ by Tony Kushner, a still potent examination of the burgeoning American AIDS crisis of the 1980s and its frank depiction of the homosexual experience during that period.
A play in 2 parts (Part 1: Millennium Approaches and Part 2: Perestroika), first performed in the early 90s. It won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, the Tony Award for Best Play, and was adapted into a star-studded HBO mini-series that won 11 Emmy awards.
The play combines symbolism, metaphor, actors playing multiple roles, and highly theatrical illusion, but the Club night will focus on the affecting intimacy of its key characters struggles and tensions during this troubled period.
